This renovation project
transformed an under utilized 27,000 square foot, former
plant office and locker room area into a state-of-the-art
Training Facility. This project consolidated plant-wide
training needs, office space and services into one location,
directly accessible to all users, plant personnel and visitors
alike.
The Consolidated
Training Facility (CTF) with more than 40 rooms provides
training, meeting rooms, restrooms, a lunch area and office
space for these major functions:
- Maximo Training
- Education and Training Department
- Safety Training
- SMCO Technical Education Training Program - including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics training.
- UAW Skill Center & Continuing Education
- MECA Mentoring Program
- Multi-function Rooms used for in-house training, vendor presentations, daily Natural Work Group sessions, plant-wide meetings, and training break-out rooms. Layout accommodates efficient 24-hour access and use across all three shifts.
- Series II and III Training
- GMU Distance Learning Center
- GM Technical Education Program
- New & Major Trainers
- Quality Network Organization
- Organizational Development Consultant
- Library space for training documentation
- Computer Labs
An adjacent, in-plant
high-bay area was also renovated with new access stairs,
enclosure and floors to provide a “hands-on” training space
for Fall Hazard Control, Rigging, Crane & Hoist Training,
Confined Space Training and Fork Truck Training. This area
is directly accessible to the CTF so that classroom learning
is directly related on hands-on practice.
Other improvements
included the addition of an elevator, main entrance lobby
with new stair, new restrooms and a vending / break area.
All associated power distribution, lighting, HVAC, and fire
suppression systems were updated for the newly renovated
areas.
The CTF can accommodate
for meetings and simultaneously train more than 700 people.
Materials and interior finishes were carefully selected
to ensure low maintenance and durability for the foundry
environment.
HRC worked with the
Plant's Joint Leadership personnel, UAW skilled trades and
project stakeholders to ensure that all needs were addressed
throughout the project, resulting in a new facility that
transforms this unused space into open, free flowing, functional
areas that encourage interaction and learning in a team
oriented environment.
