This combined Salt Storage and Maintenance Facility were constructed for MDOT's Maintenance personnel at the Blue Water Bridge. The facility was designed to house all of their operations including administrative, employee services, vehicle maintenance (mechanical and washing), vehicle storage and a salt storage facility.

HRC was hired to act as the engineer on the project and follow all day to day activities of the contractor and verify that the facility was constructed in accordance with MDOT's criteria. HRC had full time inspectors on the project and utilized MDOT's Field Manager software for the electronic administration of the project. This included all daily reports, contract modifications, progress payments and other record keeping functions.

HRC's lab personnel also performed quality control and quality assurance testing for all concrete and soils work on the project. HRC's Lab was also involved in the monitoring of the masonry testing to verify compliance with the requirements of the reinforced masonry design.

HRC closely monitored the contractor's activities to verify compliance and resolve issues on a daily basis to keep the project on track and within the budget constraints. HRC also worked as a liaison with the local Port Huron Township Officials to facilitate the new sewer and water facilities that were being constructed simultaneously for this facility.

HRC also, as part of its services, conducted regular progress meetings at the site to open the lines of communications between the contractor, his subcontractors and HRC to answer questions while there was still time to make sure the quality control and construction schedule on the project was maintained.
