In 2002 , HRC was
contracted to convert the storm, sanitary and water main
utility data for Bloomfield Township
from existing mylar utility maps to an ArcGIS Geodatabase.
The utilities were drawn on top of Township's parcel maps
and aerials from the Oakland County GIS data. The
attribute information, which includes the type of structure,
diameter of pipes, length of pipes, lead locations, ownership,
and detention/retention basins is being stored in the utility geodatabase model developed for the Oakland County Drain Commissioner's Office.
HRC has also developed
a prototype application that will identify the necessary
valves to close in the case of a water main break.
This application is designed to minimize the number of affected
customers who will lose service and to speed up the process
of identifying the proper valves to be shut down.
The utility Geodatabase model developed
by the Oakland County Drain Commissioner's Office. HRC
is one of the first GIS consultants to apply the data
models to a municipal project in Oakland County.
Bloomfield Township used the maps
developed in this project to locate catchbasins to
be treated as part of their West Nile Virus Prevention
Program.
