August 5, 2009 Update

All pavement improvements have been installed.  The majority of the disturbed areas have been restored with grass seed, mulch and topsoil, and the damaged sprinklers have been repaired.

Over the next couple weeks, the Contractor will be working on general clean up, finishing up punch list items, and a few more minor repairs to sprinklers.

At this time, the project is nearly complete.  The City of Wixom would like to thank all its businesses for their patience during this project.  It is because of the wonderful residents and businesses in the City of Wixom that we can continue to bring successful road projects to the City each year.

July 12, 2009 Update

The Contractor has removed all poor soil from under the roadway, filled the areas with stone, and placed the stone base for the pavement.  Last weekend, the first two layers of asphalt pavement were placed.

This week will be used to allow the newly placed asphalt pavement to harden.  A restoration crew will be working next week, placing grass seed, topsoil and mulch, and fixing sprinkler heads that were damaged during construction by the Contractor.  After restoration is completed, the third and final layer of asphalt will be placed.

This project is coming to a close, but there will likely be a few more days of minor inconvenience.  The City of Wixom would like to thank all businesses on Liberty Drive for their patience and understanding during this construction project.

June 22, 2009 Update

The Contractor has removed and replaced all damaged sections of concrete curb and gutter.  The replacement was done in two phases to maintain traffic to driveways while the concrete cured.  This past Saturday, pavement along the southern and eastern legs of Liberty was removed.

This week, the Contractor will be removing the existing aggregate base under the pavement that was removed.  Any areas of poor soil will be identified and removed, and the new aggregate will be placed and graded.  The remaining pavement on the eastern leg and northern leg of Liberty will be removed by the beginning of next week.  These areas will be identified for subgrade undercuts, and then stone will be placed and graded in preparation for paving.

The Contractor’s tentative schedule has been updated, incorporating all weather delays.  Please be understanding as the Contractor continues to work.  He will continue to try to minimize the inconvenience to traffic and businesses, but some delays will occur.  Thank you for your patience.

June 8, 2009 Update

The Contractor has completed the removal and replacement of the damaged storm sewer on the northern leg of Liberty Drive.  Sections of the damaged curb and gutter were removed and replaced last week.  The mailbox that was in conflict with the curb removals was temporarily relocated.  The temporary mailbox for the addresses of 46900 thru 46919 Liberty is at the north pavement eyebrow, located in front of 46941 Liberty.

Traffic will be switched over today to drive on the new curb across driveways, while the remaining sections of damaged curb are being removed.  Subject to the weather conditions, the remaining curb and gutter will be poured Friday of this week.

Construction photos have been posted to this website.  Additional photos will be posted as they are taken.
