Wexford Mews

Project Description:

As part of the City’s Road Maintenance Millage, the City of Wixom will be reconstructing the public roadways within the Wexford Mews development.  There are three different repairs proposed for the various pavement conditions that exist throughout the development.  The project overview map found below shows the areas and the proposed repair.  The following is a list of the three areas in the development and the proposed repair:

  • Area 1 (Phases one and two of Wexford Mews) – The existing pavement in this area is in poor condition.  The existing pavement and aggregate base will be removed and replaced.  The existing curb and gutter is in fairly good shape, but some curb will be replaced where serious deterioration has occurred (mostly around drainage structures).  The proposed replacement pavement cross-section is 3.5 inches of asphalt on 12 inches of 21AA limestone aggregate, which meets the City of Wixom’s engineering design standards.
  • Area 2 (Part of Phase three of Wexford Mews) – The existing pavement in this area is in good condition.  A 1.5 inch HMA mill and overlay is proposed, with repairs to the underlying HMA and aggregate base to be made as necessary.  Any damaged concrete curb and gutter in this area will be removed and replaced.
  • Area 3 (Remaining portion of Phase three of Wexford Mews & Wexford Woods) – The existing pavement in this area is in excellent condition.  No repair is proposed at this time.  The City provided routine crack sealing on these roads last Fall.

In addition to the above work, all of the existing sidewalk ramps at intersections will be upgraded to meet the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.).  This will include the removal and replacement of each sidewalk ramp and the installation of raised dome A.D.A. tiles at each ramp that crosses the road.

Prior to construction, the existing sanitary sewer was video taped, and damaged areas were identified.  There are four locations at which sanitary sewer repairs will need to be made.  See the project overview found below for exact locations of the repairs.

The existing sanitary sewer manhole and gate well covers will be removed and replaced with new “City of Wixom” standard covers.  The top two feet of each sanitary manhole will be reconstructed, and wrapped in a butyl rubber membrane to protect against storm water infiltration.  All catch basins will be reconstructed, receive new castings, and be cleaned.  Installation of edge drain and other drainage improvements will be made as deemed necessary based on the field conditions that are encountered.

The total project cost is estimated to be approximately $1.4M.
