Environmental Assessment for 26 Mile Road in Macomb County

February 3, 2003

The Road Commission of Macomb County has selected Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) as the lead consultant to prepare an Environmental Assessment for the 26 Mile Road corridor in Macomb County. This project requires the preparation of an Environmental Assessment to analyze the impacts of upgrading 26 Mile Road in Macomb County, Michigan from the existing 2-lane rural type road (east of M-53) to a 6-lane urban boulevard. The limits of the project are the Oakland County line (Dequindre Road extended) on the west to the St. Clair County line on the east. While most of the area remains rural at the current time, the area has been experiencing increasing urban development. The initiation of this project is an attempt to prepare the transportation system of Macomb County in the 26 Mile Road area for the approaching urbanization. Planning for appropriate roadway improvements will help to avoid significant social, economic and environmental impacts that will likely occur if transportation improvements are delayed until the urban development is in place.

The HRC team is comprised of Parsons Brinkerhoff Michigan (PB), Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick, Inc. (AEW), Community Planning and Management, P.C. (CP & M), and King and MacGregor Environmental, Inc. (KME). With a local presence, unparalleled engineering expertise, and intimate knowledge of the corridor area and surrounding communities, the HRC project team is uniquely qualified to perform the Environmental Assessment for the Road Commission of Macomb County. Recent project experience of the various team members includes the I-696/Franklin Road Environmental Assessment performed for the City of Southfield and the Williams Lake Road Relocation Environmental Assessment currently being performed for the Road Commission for Oakland County.
