Bloomfield Township GIS Utility Automation

March 3, 2003

Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC), has been selected by Bloomfield Township to perform a Geographic Information System (GIS) data conversion project for the Township's utilities. This project will involve converting the Township's paper and Mylar utility plans for its water, sanitary and storm sewers into ESRI's ARCGIS 8.1 digital GIS format. The project will enable all Township employees that are connected to its network to access data about the utilities and to better use and manage the Township's infrastructure.

Bloomfield Township is located in Oakland County and covers approximately 27 square miles with a population of over 43,000 people. One of the unique aspects of this project is that HRC will be implementing the ESRI GeoDatabase Utility Model recently developed by the Oakland County Drain Commissioner. Bloomfield Township will be one of the first communities in the State of Michigan to implement this database technology, which will allow for the establishment of built-in rules and relationships in the database, ensuring the quality and reliability of the utility data.

HRC is a full-service engineering firm providing civil, environmental, structural, municipal and electrical engineering services in addition to our newly expanded GIS capabilities. Other GIS-related projects HRC is currently involved with include similar municipal utility conversion and maintenance projects; environmental assessment and land use planning projects; transportation assessments, corridor planning and traffic congestion studies; as well as facility management and asset management projects.
