The City of South Lyon Selects HRC for Storm Sewer Conversion to GIS

March 24, 2003

Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) was awarded a contract with the City of South Lyon in January 2003, to develop the City's storm sewer network in a GIS format. HRC is converting the existing paper and electronic files into the recently released Oakland County Drain Commission's Utility Data Model. The County's Model follows standards developed by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), the world leader in GIS software development. The City will be able to use the mapping and data analysis capabilities of the GIS to meet the requirements of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Phase II Storm Water Permit. With the ability to keep an electronic inventory of their system, the City will also be able to meet the reporting requirements for GASB34 and other federal and state mandated requirements. The finished project will include the precise locations for the pipes, manholes, catch basins, outfalls, detention basins and connections into the open drains in the City, along with several of the characteristics of these features.
