MDOT Awards HRC M-15 Corridor Access Management Plan Development Project
February 25, 2004

The Michigan Department of Transportation Bay Region Office has selected a team headed by Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) to develop an Access Management Plan for the M-15 corridor from I-75 to I-69. The team is composed of HRC, Carlisle/Wortman Associates, Inc. (CWA), and the planning and engineering firms serving the communities along the M-15 corridor. HRC and CWA have served for many years as advisors to the M-15 Task Force Committee, which is composed of elected officials and transportation officials. For many years, the Task Force has been meeting on a regular basis to develop plans and programs to improve the capacity and safety of the M-15 corridor.
The project will be in keeping with MDOT's belief that managing access to properties adjacent to a busy corridor can have major benefits for motorists, property owners and the community. One of the major benefits of adopting access management policies for M-15 is its ability to extend the function and capacity of the state trunkline. Access management benefits the whole community and the local businesses. The proliferation of driveways and businesses can create confusion and be an impediment to finding a destination. Corridors with active access management programs are more attractive and traffic flows smoother. Everyone benefits when forethought is given to managing the number of driveways and business signs per mile and access standards are adopted.
The HRC Team will begin work on the Access Management Plan by March 1, 2004. The plan development is expected to take 10 months.
