HRC Selected by the Oakland County Drain Commissioner's Office to Perform Water System Vulnerability Assessments of OCDC Water Systems

April 2, 2003

Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) was recently selected by the Oakland County Drain Commissioner's office to develop a pilot Water System Vulnerability Assessment (VA) preparation program to serve as a template for additional risk assessment work within the County. This work entails preparing VA's and updating Emergency Operations Plans (EOP's) for two water systems and two water system control facilities under OCDC's jurisdiction. The selected projects include the Oxford Township Water System, the City of Farmington Hills Water System, OCDC's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and the Pontiac Lake Level Control Structure/Dike 1.

HRC's Water System VA Team is certified in the EPA approved methodology (Risk Assessment - RAM-W SM) for completing Water System VA's in accordance with EPA requirements and has successfully completed VA's for the City of Sterling Heights and the Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority.

The Bio Terrorism Preparedness Act, signed by President Bush on June 12, 2002, includes amendments to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act which require public water suppliers serving greater than 3,300 people to complete a Vulnerability Assessment and to update their Emergency Operations Plan. For more information on Water System Vulnerability Assessments and available grants, or water distribution system improvements, please contact Mr. Michael Waring, P.E. at (248) 454-6300 or mwaring@hrc-engr, or your HRC representative.
